🏛️ Attraction Overview

Hongyadong is Chongqing’s most iconic landmark—a cluster of stilted houses built into the mountainside, with 11 stories of traditional-style architecture suspended from the cliff. After dark, when the lights come on (around 7:00 PM), it feels like stepping into the fantastical world of Hayao Miyazaki’s *Spirited Away*. Starting in 2025, advance reservations via the official WeChat account will be required (free of charge).

✨ Why It’s Worth a Visit

Chongqing’s most photogenic scene. You must visit at night—during the day, it’s just ordinary仿古建筑, but once the lights come on at night, that’s when the magic happens. The best spot for photos is in the middle section of the Qiansimen Bridge.

Practical Tips

Take the elevator and walk along the Dai Jia Xiang Trail

After 4:00 PM, the elevator lines are extremely long. Take the 8-minute walk up the Daijia Alley trail next to it.

Hail a taxi on the 11th floor, not the 1st floor.

The 1st floor of Hongya Cave is by the river, while the 11th floor is at street level. Taxi drivers can’t find the 1st floor. Walk up to the 11th floor and call a Didi there.

Common Mistakes

Hailing a taxi on the 1st floor

Hail a taxi on the first floor by the river at Hongya Cave.

Consequences: Drivers may not be able to navigate the area. Walk up to the 11th floor (where the street is above) and hail a cab from there.
