🏛️ What It Is
The Mountain City Trail is the only street in Chongqing named after the “Mountain City.” The cliffside trail runs along the river, clusters of stilt houses cling to the mountainside, and former air-raid shelters have been transformed into teahouses and bookstores. Entering from Consular Alley, the entire route is downhill, featuring Lantern Old Street, suspended walkways, and 180-degree river views along the way.
✨ Why Visit
If you can only visit one place to experience old Chongqing, make it the Mountain City Trail. The river views from the cliffside walkway and the teahouses in the air-raid shelters—this is the most authentic side of Chongqing.
Tips for Visitors
Enter from Consular Alley—the entire route is downhill
Use your navigation app to find “Consul Alley” or “Jia Shi Nursing Home” as your entry point; the entire route is downhill, so it’s easy and not tiring. Don’t try to hike up from the bottom!
Common Mistakes
❌ Climbing up from the bottom
Your navigation app might direct you to the base of the mountain.
Consequence: The entire route is uphill—it’s so exhausting you’ll question the meaning of life. Enter via Consular Alley!
