🏛️ What It Is
Lijiang Old Town (Dayan Old Town) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an 800-year-old Naxi ancient town. Si Fang Street is the heart of the old town, and the giant waterwheel is its iconic landmark. Countless guesthouses, cafes, and handicraft shops are tucked away in the narrow alleys. When the red lanterns light up at night, the old town takes on a unique charm.
✨ Why Visit
Lijiang Old Town is one of the most charming ancient towns in China. Find a café on the second floor, order a cup of Yunnan small-bean coffee, and gaze at the distant Jade Dragon Snow Mountain—this is the Lijiang way of life.
Tips for Visitors
You can snag a shawl for 15–25 yuan
Shawls sell for 50 yuan at the entrance to the Old Town, but just a few steps inside, they’re 15 yuan. For silverware, look for the “999” hallmark.
Common Mistakes
❌ Buy shawls and silverware at the city gate
Once you enter the ancient city gate, the shopping begins.
Consequence: Prices are highest at the city gate. Walk a few steps inside, and prices drop by more than half.
