Xi’anTransportation Guide

Xi’an’s subway system currently operates 9 lines, covering the vast majority of tourist attractions. You can pay using the Alipay Ride Code. Popular lines for tourists include: Line 2 (Bell Tower, Yongning Gate, Xiaozhai), Lines 3 and 4 (Big Wild Goose Pagoda), Line 9 (Huaqing Pool; transfer to a bus to reach the Terracotta Army), and Line 14 (direct to Xianyang Airport).

The starting fare for taxis in Xi’an is 8.5 yuan (within 3 kilometers). Didi is also the most convenient way to get around. Short trips within the city cost 15–30 yuan, while a ride from the city center to Xianyang Airport costs 100–150 yuan.

Xianyang International Airport is about 40 kilometers from the city center. The Metro Line 14 is the most recommended option (about 50 minutes, 7 yuan). The airport shuttle bus costs 25 yuan and takes about 60–90 minutes. A taxi ride costs 100–150 yuan. Arrive at the airport at least 2 hours in advance.

Xi’an has two high-speed rail stations. Xi’an North Station: the largest, serving the Zhengzhou–Xi’an, Xi’an–Chengdu, and Yinchuan–Xi’an high-speed rail lines; take Line 2 into the city—it takes 40 minutes. Xi’an Station: located north of the city wall in the city center; take Line 4 into the city—it takes just 5 minutes, and you’ll emerge right at the Daming Palace. Xi’an Station is the preferred choice—it’s right at the foot of the city wall.
